Full-time bursaries are awarded annually according to the employment needs of the company. All our full-time students are viewed as potential employees – depending on vacancies being available after successfully completing their qualifications.
We offer bursaries for full-time study towards: Technical Degrees e.g., Industrial, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Computer, Civil, and Electro-mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Chemical as well as Non-Technical Degrees e.g., Data Analytics, Actuarial/Business Science, Horticulture, Property Valuation/Real Estate, Computer Science/Informatics/Business Science, Cyber Security, Procurement, Supply Chain as well as Environmental Management.
Students are allowed to study at a South African University of their own choice who offers the relevant fields of study. The comprehensive bursary covers the following:
After the screening of applications by the Transnet Bursary Department, candidates - based on academic performance on secondary or tertiary level - will be invited to be interviewed. The interviews will take place in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Durban. The final selection and award is subjective to the following:
Students are required to render one year's service for every year of financial aid received from Transnet after acquiring the qualification. Subjects failed must be repeated at student’s own cost. Termination of the bursary will be in consultation with the student and the training institution. If the student fails to comply with the requirements of the bursary agreement, the bursary becomes payable in terms of the agreement. The bursary will be renewed annually if the student’s academic performance is satisfactory.
Vacation work is available during June/July or December/January holidays. The following information must be supplied:
University of Technology Students: Transnet provides work integrated to students who have a completed S4 in-order to obtain the qualification in line with the requirements set by the training institution. Our WIL Programmes include, e.g. Civil, Electrical (Heavy Current), Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, and Metallurgy (Physical). Data Analytics, System Analytics, Information Technology, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, ICT customer service, and Computer Science.
The CAT programme is a three-year programme for candidates who have a Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA)/ BCompt (Hons) or equivalent. If you are registered in the final year of the CTA registration you can join the programme. All trainees are assigned a mentor from among the Chartered Accountants within Transnet. The training programme matches the depth of the SAICA syllabus requirements and provides wide business exposure.
We offer a Young Professional-in-Training (YPT) programme to develop individuals from Higher Learning Institute who have completed technical and non-technical tertiary qualifications, by providing relevant work experience for 24 months.
Technician-in-Training programme (TIT) is offered to students who have trained and completed Work Integrated Learning with Transnet on Technical and non-technical diploma qualifications. The duration of the programme is between 12 to 24 months.
Engineer-in-Training programme (EIT) is offered to Transnet Bursary graduates who have completed their studies in Engineering. The duration of the programme is 24 months. The programme consists of defined segments – formal and on-the-job training.
The apprenticeship programme offers vocational training in 14 trades e.g. Electrician, Fitter and Turner, Electrical Fitter, Welder.
