Managing Executive (Acting): Ore Corridor

Sibuthe Mdala

Following his secondment from Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), Sibuthe Mdala is currently acting as Managing Executive of the Ore Corridor. He will be overseeing the corridor’s operations and rail network to revitalize and stabilize volume growth and performance efficiencies. Mdala’s trailblazing career with Transnet, speaks about his remarkable work ethic and commitment to making a success out of his responsibilities.

He marked the beginning of his career in the organization as an Engineering Technician and moved to be part of the maintenance team for the rolling stock fleet at the then Cape Metrorail. Mdala steadily advanced through the ranks by working as a Risk Analyst under Capital Project Management on the Export Iron Ore Line. Following his significant expertise in project management, he was then appointed as a Project Manager for the Western Region and subsequently appointed as Area Production Manager for the Bellville cluster.

Mdala has a record of accomplishment in the railway heavy haul business that date back to 2012, during his tenure as Executive Manager of operations for the Export Iron Ore Line. During this period, the team set several new volume throughput records with the highest annual throughput of 59.7 million tonnes. It was simultaneously, exceeding the volume and revenue targets by 3% and 5% respectively. Accompanying his career growth over the years comes with a greater academic background as he is an established leader of integrity and optimism prepared to share his knowledge for the greater good of the spaces he enters. He holds the following qualifications: National Diploma (Electrical Engineering) and Bachelor of Technology (Electrical Engineering) from Cape Peninsula University of Technology | Bachelor of Science (Railway Operations Management) from Glasgow Caledonian University of Scotland | Management Development Programme from University of Witwatersrand | Senior Management Programme from International Railway Management Institution (IRSMI, UIC at Paris)
