General Manager (Acting): Rail Network & Capital Projects
Sandile Magenuka
Sandile Magenuka is currently the Acting General Manager of Rail Network & Capital Projects effective 1 May 2024. He has 28 years of experience working as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, and Project Director during which time, he gained his technical expertise in electrical engineering in general, as well as power systems and railway engineering specifically. Since graduating at the University of Natal in 1995 with a B.Sc. Engineering (Electrical), he has contributed significantly to the success of his employers' businesses, from leading electrical maintenance teams to designing complex electrical systems and successfully managing and directing multidisciplinary engineering projects. He completed the GIBS MBA (University of Pretoria) in 2004, which helped him strengthen his skills in managing capital projects, corporate finance, people management & business management.
He joined Transnet in 2002 as a Senior Engineer responsible for Protekon’s electrical construction unit and he briefly left the organization in 2006 to be part of the LOC’s oversight project management team that was responsible for preparing the 10 stadia for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He rejoined Transnet in 2011 as Chief Engineering Manager at RNC. He was later appointed as a Principal Engineer in Rail Network’s Technical Office in 2012 and Project Director for Transnet Capital Projects in 2015.
He registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer status in the year 2000 and obtained a Government Certificate of Competency for Engineers (GCC) in 2002.
